The cheque code data is scanned by magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) and also by zonal OCR of scanned image - a unique algorithm is applied to ensure accuracy. There is a dedicated slot for plastic cards - ID or banking - to be scanned in colour, so that card-holders' identities can be immediately confirmed and recorded. Up to five lines of 60 characters, and bitmap imaging, can be printed on the back of cheques while they're being scanned, with no loss of speed, for easy endorsement.
